DAWN AEROWAR confuses people on first contact — and the confusion is understandable. It looks like a flight combat game, it is sold on Steam, and it has a War Room. But it is a film: a 12-episode interactive animated feature directed and composed by Jose Pavli (the Project Wingman composer) and produced by Neiwa Interactive. This guide sets you straight before your first viewing.

What DAWN AEROWAR Actually Is

It is an interactive animated film — nearly two hours of story split across 12 episodes, combining cinematic 3D aerial combat, hand-drawn 2D character artwork, professional voice acting, and an original 34-track score. You follow Zodiac 1, a fighter pilot on one final mission of revenge against the Saal'Runa Empire that took his family, his home, and his purpose. "Interactive" means you navigate the experience — episode selection, radio tuning, playback — not that you pilot a plane.

War Room versus Cinematic Mode

The film offers two ways to watch, and choosing between them is the first real decision:

• War Room — the interactive layer: a campaign map with twelve missions. You select the next sortie, and for the first six episodes you can tune a radio between 118 and 141 MHz to lock onto the pre-mission transmission before the episode plays. Our War Room guide walks the full flow.
• Cinematic Mode — the film uninterrupted: the complete story plays end to end without radio tuning or returning to the mission map. This is the "just watch the movie" option, and it is a legitimate way to experience the whole story.

Neither mode is the wrong one. War Room is the designed experience; Cinematic Mode is the same film with the ceremony stripped out.

Controls and Platform

DAWN AEROWAR launches on Steam for Windows (planned November 10, 2026 per the official site — tracked on our release date page). Controls are keyboard, mouse, or gamepad — navigation input for the film player, not flight controls. The Steam page lists subtitle support in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese and Japanese; full audio is English.

Before Release: What You Can Do Now

The One Mistake to Avoid

Do not buy this expecting a flight game. The Steam description is explicit that it is a film-first experience — if you want to fly, Project Wingman is the composer's game pedigree; DAWN AEROWAR is where his story and music live. Come for the film, and the War Room's interactive framing is a bonus rather than the point.
