The War Room Guide: DAWN AEROWAR's Interactive Layer
How the War Room works in DAWN AEROWAR — the campaign map, selecting sorties, tuning the 118-141 MHz radio for mission transmissions, and switching to Cinematic Mode.
The War Room is DAWN AEROWAR's interactive heart — the room you return to between episodes, where the film's 12 episodes become a campaign laid out on a map. This guide covers how it works, the radio mechanic, and when to use Cinematic Mode instead.
The Campaign Map
Enter the War Room and you see the campaign map: twelve missions marking Zodiac 1's route across the war — from the northern front, across the strait, through the Aegis Sea, to the Imperial Capital. Each marked sortie is one episode. Selecting the next mission launches it as a film segment; the War Room is the connective tissue that turns twelve chapters into one campaign.
The Radio Mechanic (First Six Sorties)
The War Room's signature interaction: for the first six episodes, a radio can be tuned between 118 and 141 MHz. Turn the dial until the transmission signal locks, and you hear the incoming mission briefing — a pre-episode radio transmission that frames the sortie you are about to watch. It is the film's most game-like moment, and it is optional flavor rather than a puzzle gate: the mission plays regardless.
Episode Playback
Once a sortie launches, the experience is pure film — the episode plays without interruption. When it ends, you are returned to the War Room for the next selection, keeping the campaign rhythm: briefing (radio), mission (episode), map (progress).
Cinematic Mode: The Alternative
Don't want the ceremony? Cinematic Mode plays the complete film continuously — no radio tuning, no War Room returns, the twelve episodes stitched into one uninterrupted screening. The beginner guide covers the choice in context: War Room is the designed experience, Cinematic Mode is the same story with the framing removed. Both are first-class ways to watch.
Player Features Around the Film
Around both modes, the Steam listing confirms: episode selection, subtitles (seven languages), controller support (alongside keyboard and mouse), and Steam achievements. The film player is a dedicated application — navigation input, not flight sim controls.
